A few words about new products in the showroom:
Running out of storage is one of the worst, yet most common, occurrences on a project. Typically you're stuck choosing between dumping footage every few hours or spending an arm and a leg on memory large enough to compensate. Well, not anymore! The new Delkin Devices 1TB Juggler USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C Cinema SSD is here to help.
This external SSD uses a 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C interface and provides read speeds of up to 1050 MB/s and write speeds of up to 1000 MB/s. Approved for Blackmagic devices and tested by Delkin on Blackmagic's Pocket Cinema Camera 4K and URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2, this SSD includes a mounting clip with an integrated 1/4"-20 male thread, meaning that it can attach to your camera without the need for a cage. Also included is a USB Type-C to Type-C cable, so you can connect the Juggler not only to your camera, but also to your host system running Windows 10/8/7 or macOS 10.6 and later.
Now that you’re stocked up with enough storage to get you through your shoot, you’re gonna need something to monitor all that footage with. We suggest using the Atomos Shinobi SDI! The flexible Shinobi SDI is an on-camera monitor with both 3G-SDI and HDMI inputs, supporting up to DCI 2K via SDI or up to DCI 4K via its HDMI input. It features a 10-bit (8+2 FRC) IPS screen with a brightness of 1000 cd/m², suiting it for use in both exterior and interior conditions. Whatever shoot you’re working on, the Shinobi will quickly become your best friend.
Another alternative to solve both of these needs, however, is the infamous Atomos Ninja V 5” on-camera monitor/recorder. While the other two you would need to purchase separately, the Ninja V allows you to both record and play back DCI 4K, UHD 4K, and HD video from purpose-built mini-SSDs. It features a 10-bit FRC IPS screen with a brightness of 1000 cd/m², which makes it suitable for use in both exterior and interior conditions. The AtomHDR display technology allows you to accurately monitor your log gamma footage without having to view flat, washed-out looking images or use a LUT to compress the dynamic range and color space. The monitor supports popular log formats from Sony, Canon, Panasonic, ARRI, RED, and JVC cameras, so come on in and get one to pair with whatever you’re shootin’!
